Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA IV) versus Koyaanisqatsi

Yesterday, Rockstar Games released the long anticipated trailer for the new Grand Theft Auto game due out in October (10/16/07).  When I saw it, the first thing that came to mind was Koyaanisqatsi, a 1982 film by Godfrey Reggio.  In fact, the GTA IV trailer is a near replica of the film’s style, down to using the same soundtrack by Philip Glass.  I think it’s a brilliant idea from Rockstar and I am very impressed.  Below are the trailers for your comparison.  (Note that the style I’m referring to in Koyaanisqatsi can be seen about one third into the trailer).
